From Concept to Shipped Product in 8 Months: AI Sports Wearable

A sports technology startup came to Fiddlie with an ambitious brief: a custom wearable for elite athlete performance tracking, combining high-frequency sensor fusion, AI-driven analytics, and a companion mobile app - built for the demands of professional training.

Fiddlie took full ownership of the complete stack - industrial design, PCB, embedded firmware, and mobile application - with no third-party handoffs. Within six weeks, a working prototype was capturing sensor data at 100Hz with 20 hours of continuous battery life, giving the client real data to validate their AI models against from the earliest stage.

I've worked with plenty of engineering firms who take your brief and disappear. Fiddlie were different - they genuinely cared whether the product was right, not just whether the spec was met. That made a real difference when we hit the inevitable difficult decisions during development.

Eight months after kick-off, the product had completed production and shipped to its first customers. Fiddlie remains their embedded engineering partner for ongoing hardware and software development.

Sector: Sports Technology. Engagement type: Full turnkey development - industrial design, hardware, firmware, mobile application.

our process

1. initial meeting

Meet with one of our engineers to discuss your project under NDA.

2. free fixed quote

We prepare a proposal with payments spread out as we deliver.

3. project kick-off

Comprehensive alignment meeting to nail down specifications.

4. prototyping

We iterate back and forth to narrow down the perfect design.

5. production

We produce pre-production units for investor demos, field trials, or regulatory.

6. completion

Handover of produced demo units and all generated IP.

Typical engagements run from £15k–£150k over 3–12 months. We take on a limited number of new partnerships each quarter to ensure each client gets dedicated engineering resource.

electronic engineering services

pcb design

We design for manufacture from the outset - not as an afterthought. That means DFM review baked into the layout process, component availability assessed against your production volumes, and designs validated against IPC-A-600 before they leave our hands. The result is a board your CEM can quote and build without a redesign cycle.

embedded systems

Our team develops embedded systems that form the core intelligence of electronic products, integrating seamlessly with hardware and software. These solutions are optimised for efficiency, security, and scalability across diverse applications.

power management

We design efficient, reliable power distribution and regulation systems tailored to each product’s operational profile. This includes safeguarding components and ensuring stable performance under varying loads and environments including ultra-low power operation.

testing & compliance

Our engineering process includes thorough validation against industry standards and regulatory requirements to ensure readiness for certification. Rigorous testing identifies and mitigates potential failure points, supporting long-term product reliability and safety.

how we work

Our facility includes automated PCB pick and place, conveyor reflow, and signal analysis equipment, enabling fast, accurate prototype builds without outsourcing the critical early iterations. We also work with a vetted network of specialist manufacturers for high-volume production, EMC testing, and certification support.

in-house capability

PCB design, embedded systems, prototyping, and test - all under one roof. No handoffs, no miscommunication, faster iteration.

manufacture-ready output

Every design is built for production from day one. IPC-compliant, BOM-optimised, and ready for your contract manufacturer without rework.

protected IP, transparent terms

NDA from first conversation. Fixed-price milestones with staged payments. Full IP ownership transferred to you on completion.

start with a feasibility review

Not sure if your concept is technically viable, or want an independent view before committing to full development? Our Feasibility Review gives you a clear technical roadmap, risk assessment, and cost model - delivered in two weeks, for a fixed fee.

What you get:

  • Technical feasibility assessment

  • Component and architecture recommendations

  • Key risk identification and mitigation options

  • Indicative development roadmap and cost range

  • A document your team or investors can act on immediately

Fixed fee: £2,500 + VAT - delivered in two weeks.

discuss your project

If you have a defined product in mind and are ready to move into development, we'd like to hear about it.

Fiddlie works as an embedded engineering partner for funded startups and growth-stage companies who need more than a contractor - they need a team that understands the full journey from architecture to manufacture, and takes ownership of getting there.

We cover the complete development stack in-house: PCB design, embedded firmware, power management, RF and wireless, industrial design and compliance preparation. That means no handoffs between specialists, no finger-pointing when something doesn't work, and a single point of accountability throughout your project.

Typical engagements run from £15k–£150k over 3–12 months. We take on a limited number of new partnerships each quarter to ensure each client gets dedicated engineering resource.
