Tequitrack, an innovative equestrian startup, approached Fiddlie with a bold vision: to create a highly accurate, easy-to-use local positioning system that would allow dressage riders to digitize, practice, and perfect their routines. They needed a partner who could not only build a complex software application but also design, patent, and manufacture the robust physical hardware required to make it a reality.

The Challenge: Engineering for the Arena

The project required a two-pronged approach: developing sophisticated hardware that could withstand the rigors of an outdoor equestrian environment, and creating an intuitive software platform for a specialized audience.

Hardware requirements included:

• Extreme Durability: Beacons needed to be weatherproof and tough enough for permanent outdoor installation.

• Exceptional Battery Life: A minimum 10-year battery life was essential to create a low-maintenance, "set and forget" system.

• Sleek, Versatile Design: The hardware had to look professional and offer flexible mounting options, such as a zip-tie loop for fences and a screw thread for tripods.

Software requirements included:

• Intuitive Routine Builder: An app that allowed users to easily input complex dressage routines.

• AI-Powered Automation: An AI function to help generate and suggest routine elements.

• Real-Time Feedback: A "virtual dressage caller" to guide riders through their performance in real-time.

The Solution: An Integrated Hardware and Software Ecosystem

Hardware Development: Our engineers designed and patented a custom beacon that met and exceeded all requirements. We sourced components to ensure an ultra-long battery life and housed them in a rugged, sealed enclosure that was both durable and aesthetically pleasing. By incorporating both a loop and a screw thread into the design, we gave Tequitrack a versatile product that could be easily installed in any arena.

Software Development: Simultaneously, our software team developed the Tequitrack app. We focused on creating a seamless user experience, from the step-by-step dressage routine builder to the groundbreaking AI assistant. The app’s core feature—the real-time virtual caller—was perfected to provide clear, accurate guidance to riders, syncing flawlessly with the on-site beacons.

Real-World Testing: Perfecting Performance in Person

A lab environment can't replicate the unique conditions of a horse arena. A crucial phase of the project involved extensive, in-person testing. The Fiddlie and Tequitrack teams worked side-by-side at equestrian facilities, deploying the beacons, and having riders use the app with their horses. This hands-on process allowed us to gather immediate feedback, identify potential issues, and refine everything from beacon signal strength to the app's user interface. We manage the supply chain to produce the patented beacons, maintain and add features to the Tequitrack app and are working with Tequitrack on their product roadmap, which includes expanding the technology into dressage schooling and other equestrian sports.
